But no invaders came by land or air. Have we then, felt disgruntled, and damned the time as wasted on that training in signals, intelligence, mapping, and arms? I don't think so. Apart from all this technical stuff, coming so belatedly to many middle-aged and hundred per cent. civilians, there has been a most notable achievement—the discovery of a spirit of solidarity, that mild comradeship which is capable of suddenly hardening into 'a deep and heroic force when occasion requires.
