Black v. black
From Mr Lee Jasper Sir: Far from the complacency implied by your television reviewer James Delingpole (Arts, 29 September), the issue of black-onblack violence is one of my key concerns, as is demonstrated by my commitment to the Metropolitan Police initiative, Operation Trident.
My experience of this issue over many years has convinced me that while there have been a number of individual incidents that must definitely be tackled, there is no evidence to suggest that there is a widespread generalised problem of ethnically motivated violence between West Indians and Africans in London.
However, what worries me more about the review of Channel 4's Black an Black, is its inaccuracy. Your reviewer argues that the murder of Damilola Taylor was 'almost certainly the result of West Indian v. African prejudice'. In fact, of the four youths charged with Damilola Taylor's murder in June, none are of West Indian origin.
