Don PEDRO was elected Regent of Portugal, in the Chamber

of Peers, on the 25th ultimo, by a majority of 9 to 4. Ile lost no time in creating twenty-four new Peers; and now that the re- fractory section of the Legislature is effectually swamped, there is every prospect of the Government proceeding harmoniously. The Deputies have decided, by a vote of 67 to 27, that the Queen should be married to an European Prince, to be chosen by her father.

The protest of Don MIGUEL against the treaty which lie signed previously to leaving Portugal, is held to be an authentic docu- ment; and consequently no payment will be made to him on ac- count of the pension to which lie would have been entitled had he performed his party of the treaty. SILVA CARVALHO has made a financial report to the Chambers, which presents a flattering view of the resources and prospects of the country : it was of course received with great satisfaction. Don PEDRO is still in very indifferent health ; which occasions much anxiety to the friends of the now fairly-established order of things.
