CANADA FOR THE CANADIANS
SIR,-1 have just ice's 'Mr. Davenport's article (Spectator; Auitist 23) and I hasten to cringratulate you. What has been 'farce is taking on the over- tones of tragedy. Canada and the US 'need each other as no' two other free world countries do (the US needs Canada as* a market, and Canada, 'as Mr. Davenport pointed out so well, needs the US as a source of capital). But many wise men on this side of the border are, beginning to suspect that Canada may be the' weak link in the free world's financial chain—and the Austria of any new 1931.
