Shit-list
Sir: I find myself puzzled by the paragraph in Mr Ingrams's television review ('Swinging') in your issue dated 17 March, which begins: 'Sir Fitzroy, (who may be a Mountbatten-type shit for all I know . . . )'. Perhaps you could enlighten me. What is a 'Mountbatten-type shit'? Is the reference to Earl Mountbatten himself'? Or to Prince Philip? Or to the heir to the throne? Or to all three? Or does Mr lngrams have in mind ancestral 'shits'? Perhaps Prince Louis of Battenberg who was forced out of his post as First Lord because some (dare I say it) journalistic or governmental 'shit' considered his name unpatriotic? And by the way, might that rather gallant personage, Sir Fitzroy Maclean, be tarred, for all Mr Ingrams knows, with the same brush as the unfortunate Mountbattens?
If he is to revise the general historical estimate of such widely known figures, is Mr Ingrams to go on doing so without warning or explanation? I await with fascination the extentions of his S-list!
