In My Garden

Gardens may provide much "unearned increment." For example, a gardener reports the presence of waxwings, those rare and lovely immi- grants, in his garden, thanks to the supply of cotoneaster berries. I have found C. Simonsii particularly bright and full of even February food. The berries hang much longer than on C. Horivantalis, which is invaluable for bees, and in December for the birds. The first also is an excellent hedge plant, though perhaps C. Robertsiana may be better.
