We are delighted that Mr. Lloyd George should have offered
to put in writing the promise to do what everybody knows we should have to do in any case—that is to say, help France if Germany again attacks her wantonly. We are very glad also to notice that in a speech at Bristol on Tuesday Lord Grey of Fallodon supported the principle of a guarantee to France. This seems to have been unexpected by some of his Liberal friends in the Press, but after a short embarrassment and silence they seem to be ready to fall in with the proposal.
