Mrs B. Hughes
I must say I thought David War. 11 Ryder's article on compulsory in; ,.1ItIon (June 23) very biased in rout of the view which it most eases him to hold. In his case, that eredity-is-everything. „Sir instance, he gives a quotation "I a Dr Boris Sokoiott, a scientist, says, of world repute, concerning hreham Lincoln and Andrew John„‘”, and appears to think that it helps ' Prove his prejudices. But does it? repeat the last three sentences of
his quote: " Their poverty was incredible, infinitely more devastating thanwhat we now call poverty. And yet, in spite of the most discouraging environmental conditions, they reached the highest places in this country. Both men were of extraordinary intelligence — a product of their heredity." But, if their heredity was so good, how was it that they were born into extraordinary poverty in the first place?
It puzzles me. B. Hughes 49 Clover Rise, Whitstable, Kent.
