Football—for love or money

Sir: Mr Davenport's most interesting dis- closures (7 June) of the financial position of the Football League clubs and his conclusion that television could contribute more to the game serve to highlight the need for a 'box office' element in the Tv treatment of live entertain- ment.

If we had an efficient pay-television service covering the country, the financial support given to sport, the theatre, and other live enter- tainments would solve many problems and im- prove standards.
