On Monday in the House of Commons the Government announced
that they proposed to make every member's salary of £400 a year free of Income Tax, and to allow members to travel first class, free of charge, to and from their constituencies, and to and from their homes. We are very sorry to hear it. The principle of placing the supreme authority on taxation above the reach of taxation in respect of official salaries is entirely wrong.
