Was it the EEC?
Sir: In view of the trends, the victory of the Labour Party at Grimsby was spectacular. Many voices in the media have offered the somewhat frivolous explanation of the Labour candidate's success by his frequent appearance on the television screen, but none has dared to suggest that his opposition to our membership of the EEC might have something to do with it.
Even if the sirens of the media must decide themselves, let us hope that the lesson is learned by the Conservative Party; for the Grimsby result gives it cause not only for disappointment but for very serious concern and searching enquiry and consequent revision of its policy on the Common Market.
