Sin,—There are weighty objections to a direct tax on betting'i which do not hold against indirect taxes ; we already have one at least in the entertainments tax as applied to race, ; meetings. May I _venture to Suggest another ? A tax on those newspapers which publish betting news, at the rate of; say; a penny perten copies printed. The yield from 5,000,000 copies a day for the year would be over £650,000.-1 am, Sir, &c.,
