Unfortunately we cannot find space to follow the details of
the debate, but we must draw attention to Sir Edward Carson's touching allusion to Mr. Asquith's loss of his son. He spoke of "the deep sympathy and affection which we felt towards the Prime Minister in the circumstances in which he has had to make his speech." He him self had known Raymond Asquith professionally, and no one who had done so "could doubt that he would have fulfilled the highest possible expectations of those who had watched his early, great, and unparalleled University career."
