As readers of this column should know by now, the

wine trade has tended over the years to apply household names like Medoc and Volnay to blends. It was with great pleasure that I saw in the new list from the small City firm of G. F. Grant and Co. that they guarantee the contents of their bottles comply with the names on the labels. Most merchants do not give this undertaking. Perhaps they should, even if it does seem like gilding the lily.
