Housing follies
Sir: In his article in your issue for 1 April 1 take it that when Mr Tony Craig states that 'There is indeed a strong case for freezing rents this year' he was, in the absence of allY proffered reason for this statement, trying to make April fools of his readers. The frozen and exceptionally low rents for municipal accommodation brought about by the various Labour-controlled boroughs, both in London and elsewhere, are nothing more than a system of electoral bribery. The difference between this for of electoral bribery and that of past ages is that now these bribes are offered to faithfall Labour voters to keep their benefactor 1.0 office but the wherewithal for the bribe ts now taken by means of rates and taxes oat of the pockets of Labour's opponents.
