A REWARDING week for Peter Suther- land, the persuasive Irish advocate and unregenerate cigar-smoker. He stepped up to be chairman of BP when David Simon disappeared into the government, and now he steps forward to be co-chairman of BP Amoco. In his spare time he is a partner in Goldman Sachs, so he could afford a cele- bratory Monte Cristo.
