Crocodile Trapping Sus,—I am writing to you concerning a note
written by Strix in your paper dated September 22nd, 1950. The note, which concerns alleged cruelty- to crocodiles, is apparently derived from a letter written by someone else to somebody in Kenya. This type of com- plaint is difficult enough, but when you realise the size of Tanganyika - (365,000 square miles) and bear in mind that many people are out look- ing for crocodiles, it must be obvious how impossible the task is. Government is only too anxious to take action against anyone guilty of cruelty, and I would like to suggest to your informer that if only those reporting the cruelty would report it direct to the nearest authority or direct to the game-warden, giving names and the locality, they would be rendering a very great service, for action can and would be taken forthwith ; all such information is treated as strictly confidential.—
