Bevms and Britain
Sir: I can only trust that Mr Bevins's thought is more profound than its expression (February 8). It would be difficult to imagine a diatribe less worthy of serious criticism, were it not that its publication demanded a reply. "The trade deficit, the fall in the pound, are only the tip of the iceberg, the effects of contemporary British attitudes," Funny. I thought they were largely due to world inflation in general and the price of oil in particular. Mr Bevins joins the ever-growing army of those who presume to really know what the electorate wants, as opposed to the parties, "on such issues
as EEC, political terrorism and sexual reforms." What, Mr Bevins. do we want? How do you know what we want? How many of us want it? And how are "such issues as" the three mentioned .(with the implication of similarity), in any way alike?
