Eysenck the terrible
Sir: Mr L. E. Weidberg (February 1) seems to share the same misconceptions about Professor H. J. Eysenck's views on the possible link between smoking and lung cancer as I had until recently. On reading Professor's Eysenck's Race, Intelligence and Education I found he difinitely states that there is a correlation between these two things. What he does say is that there is no correlation between smoking and coronary diseases. I would be interested to know if Mr Weidberg got his information from a certain newspaper article which sought to discredit Professor Eysenck's quite sensible views on racial differences. I would also add if Mr Weidberg cannot see the difference between the fascist thuggery of some LSE students and Professor Eysenck's honest attempts to establish whether some folk theory has any scientific basis to it, then he has absolutely no appreciation of the scientific method and integrity which Professor Eysenck epitomises.
