Divine inspiration?

Sir: Ludovic Kennedy's description of his atheistic stance leaves me gasping (Diary, 8 February). How could so intelligent a man be content with such an unintelligent basis to explain his existence, and be proud of it! `Creation', he concludes, 'is a marvellous mystery we can never solve', and so he hap- pily sweeps the whole concept aside.

The god whose existence he rightly denies is no more than a man-created fig- ure, an imagined super-man with man's virtues and vices. Clearly he has failed to understand God as Spirit, divine Mind, the Creator of the spiritual universe and spiri- tual man, so he is unable to recognise the manifestations of God's goodness in him- self and all around him.

Mr Kennedy is well known for his love of justice and his dedicated efforts to expose and overcome injustice. Who, or what, inspires him to devote time and energy to such work? Does he take the credit to him- self? Or what is there in the human body to produce such action?
