SIR,—Canon Ellison finds fault with "those dreary lists of names
and genealogies" in the Bible. They are there because the Bible is a record of persons, not of abstractions. The liturgical use of the Matthaean genealogy as the Gospel in a Latin Mass points the way to appreciation of other such lists of names.—Yours faithfully, J. A. 11. BELL.
