The Dominant Chord. By Mrs. Ambrose Harding. (T. Werner Laurie.
6s.)—The scene of this novel is laid in the island of Dominica, of which the author writes with apparently complete familiarity. As a story it is not striking, but it gives us a good picture of the life lived by English people in the West Indies. The descriptions of Mr. Waterton's wonder- ful Georgian house will come as a surprise to many people who have not appreciated the fact that excellent examples of domestic architecture are to be found in the West Indies. The author touches on the colour problem. People who hold strong views on the subject will be by no means pleased with the end of the story.
