SIR,—If Pharos 'would like to know where the money is

coming from to pay for the Peoples League full-page advertisements in the press it is curious that he did not ask when putting a number of other questions to me on the tele' phone last week. Especially in view of the fact that he replied 'No' to my final 'Is there anY" thing else you would like to know?'

Let us strangle at birth any sinister 'hidden fund' myth. The money is coming exclusively from members of the League. An advertisement in the Recorder (for which no charge was made) produced in donations from new members, over and above their minimum subscriptions, suf cient to take a whole page in the Manchester Guardian (£480), which in turn produced fat more than enough to pay for a page in The Times (£1,200). The results from The Ti"'s already justify the booking of a number of other advertisements.

It may be added that, at the time of writing, no donation to the League from any one source has exceeded £20.—Yours faithfully,

EDWARD MARTEI
