A very good non-political judge has been just made. Mr.

Lindley, Q.C., who is raised to the Bench in consequence of the death of Mr. Baron Pigott, and who was one of the leaders in the Court of Vice- Chancellor Charles Hall, is not only a very accomplished lawyer, but, to some extent at least, a scientific jurist. He is to go to the Common Pleas, where a judge with a good knowledge of equity is required in anticipation of the provisions of the Judicature Act. In order to effect this, Mr. Justice Huddleston has consented to go to the Court of Exchequer. It is always matter for rejoicing when the Bench is strengthened by so good a lawyer as Mr. Lindley, without any political distinction to recommend him for promotion.
