Mayhem

Sir: When I turned to the puzzle pages in the 1 May issue of The Spectator and saw Mass had presented a crossword titled `Mayday' (his 200th in the series), I could not help but smile, thinking that my puzzle entitled CC the previous week should have carried a similar warning.

Not until that puzzle of mine had appeared in print last week did I realise that the clue to 34 Down `Possibly 30 days to live' was incorrect. It should have read `Possibly 31 days to live.' My addled brain could not count the number of days in May correctly!

May I extend my apologies to my loyal solvers for causing them distress?
