At COVENT GARDEN they have been playing Ion ; MACREADY,

of course, being the hero, VANDENHOFF personating Adrastus, and Miss HELEN FAUCIT Clemanthe. King John has been repeated, to audiences. crowded to the slips. VANDENIIOFF plays Lord Townley, in the Pre - coked Husband, to-night; this is a character for KEMBLE. Miss Faucir is the Lady Townley. The Clandestine Marriage, with FAE- RF.N as Lord Ogleby, introduced Mrs. GLOVER as Mrs. Heidelberg, and WensTea as Canton—both acquisitions to the company. The repr - sentation was coarse and unequal : even FARREN was too farcic- Mrs. GLovea's acting was broad caricat ire ; WEBSTER made Canton grin like a baboon; and Miss PELHAM as Miss Sterling was not only disagreeable, as the character required her to be, but gratuitously vulgar and affected. H. WALLACK as Brush and J. WEBSTER as Sir John Melville deserved praise.

A farce was essayed here also ; but, like its predecessor at Driny, was- stifled in the birth ; not that it was indecent, but only vapid. I' • damnation was protracted by a little disturbance that took place in the theatre. Some persons in the boxes were early and loud in their oppo- sition; and their pertinacity annoyed the more tolerant poet of the audience, who were the more inclined to favour the piece. A Police- man was most unwarrantably called upon to expel one of the malecon- tents ; and in the mean time, OSBALDISToN came forward, holding letter in his hand, which he said he had that morning recei., intimating that a party would be in the house for the purpose 01 hissing the farce ; and he therefore prayed the indulgence of the audi- ence until the end ; so the farce was played out in dumb show. The gentleman who was laid hold of by the Policeman made a complaint before the Magistrates; but as the Manager and the Policeman both neologized, the complainant was satisfied with the Magistrate's dictum of the illegality of the proceeding. A play may now be hissed at Co- vent Garden without fear of the Stationhouse.
