of the word" charac- teristic" applied to Lord Ponsonby's letter on the domestic slavery of Turkey. The word did not express our meaning : "curious" or" clever " would have been better. As LOOKER-Ott does not read the Morning Chronicle, he is not likely to know the absurdities of which the other person in question has been guilty.
