[To THE EDITOR OF THE " SPECTATOR."] SIR,—The writer of
the valuable article on " The Uses of Advertisement" in your issue of August 9th refers to the lyric entitled " To-day " as Thomas Carlyle's " one poem." I may be allowed to point out that Carlyle wrote many verses, and that the piece so justly praised by your contributor is not his only true poem. " The Sower's Song," " Adieu," and "Drumwhinn Bridge" have all real merit.—I am, Sir, &e.,
