Country without a conscience Sir: Since 6 July 1967, when
Nigeria started to wage her genocidal war against the innocent people of the State of Biafra, the intention of that country has been, and still is, to decimate or possibly to remove or destroy that which makes Biafra a country. All throueh these twenty-four months dur-
ing which time this war of genocide against Biafra has been raging, Nigeria has em- ployed all sorts of sophisticated weapons to subdue Biafra, to no avail. Prior to the war, Nigeria could hardly be said to have any Navy of her own, let alone the Air Force. But, by the grace of the might of Russia and Britain, and of some other nations— might, directed to suppress the oppressed— Nigeria has now acquired several Naval warships and Air Force fighter and bomber planes. All these have been used over the months to 'crush' Biafra. But has the object behind the borrowing and the acquisition of this so-called might been achieved? And can it ever be achieved?
By now it should dawn on the blind- folded Nigerians and the world at large that Biafra has become a fully-fledged nation. There can be no question of whether Biafra is or can be a nation. Biafra has become a nation today as much as Nigeria—it will be foolhardy for anybody to think other- wise.
Nigeria cannot crush Biafra any longer and the sooner Yakaba Gowan realises that it is a senseless war, started just to exter- minate God's human beings, and calls it off, the better for both sides in the con- flict. And if Nigeria persists in the war we shall have no alternative than to continue to defend our sacred lives and homes. At the end, Nigeria will be frustrated and give up fighting. Since this will surely happen, even if it takes time, why can't Nigeria stop fighting immediately and negotiate peace? Should Britain, Nigeria's mentor, not also try to think again? Nigeria should be well- advised that this war is needless and useless. She should better direct her efforts towards the revival of her economy which is fast collapsing.
