From Helen Brady Sir: I sympathise with Tom Fort (The rising tide of cliches', 9 August) and his weariness with BBC spoken English. If he would like to experience further BBC employees' educational shortcomings and spelling abilities, he should tune in to their subtitling service. It will open up a whole new world of weariness or hilarity for him, depending on his mood. Recently I read 'fowl weather' and 'caviar enaptor".
