Immigration records
Sir: As you know, Asians have settled in Britain from at least the 18th century. However, with one or two exceptions, little is known about these early settlers, and little information about them has survived because no one took the trouble to keep their records, papers, diaries, photographs and so on. The sad thing is that much has already been lost of the history of more recent immigrants, even of those who are alive today. May I appeal to your readers to preserve carefully all material which may possibly be of interest to coming gener- ations'?
I have been researching for some time the history of Asians in Britain, especially before 1950, and should be grateful if your readers could bring to my attention mater- ial of which I ought to be aware.
