Mr Heath's road from Suez
Sir: When Edward Heath denounces the allied commitment to the liberation of Kuwait as 'the new imperialism' does he stop to think what he was up to in 1956? As a government whip he rallied support for Eden's Suez adventure — a morally much less defensible affair than the present enterprise. In 1956 we went to war without the backing of the United Nations against a country which had not violated the sovereignty of another one.
Sovereignty, of course, is something that this waspish and embittered man does not understand. Why else is he such a fanatical advocate of the European super-state?
