JANUARY 18, 1834 THE galleries in St. Paul's Cathedral were illuminated on Sunday evening for the first time with gas. The effect was brilliant and imposing. A handsome drapery of crimson morecn has recently been put up in these galleries, much to the accommodation of the public, who are now sheltered from the draughts of cold air to which they were formerly exposed from the dome.
