LETTERS The true Will
Sir: I am in complete agreement with Richard Malim's identification of Edward de Vere as the • true Shakespeare (They haven't the necessary Will', 9 January). Most interested people would, I am sure, also be convinced of de Vere's authorship if they could only put to one side nearly 400 years of myth-making hypnotism and study the known facts.
No doubt those with vested interests will remain unconvinced — it's like trying to talk the Pope out of the Virgin Birth — but the baseless fabric upon which this story has been built can be revealed for what it is: a necessary cover-up for political and possi- bly personal reasons.
Now, though, at last perhaps the Man of the Millennium can be celebrated for who he really is. Congratulations on carrying such a controversial article.
