The criticism that the Greeks " brought it all on

themselves," even if it be true, is irrelevant. The vast majority of the sufferers had no more to do with the direction of politics than the man in the moon. Besides, the greater number of sufferers are children. The British societies have so far been feeding- the relatively small numbet of 35,000. A great effort is required not only to go on feeding these, but to extend the relief when the American Red Cross withdraws—if it does so. Under famine conditions the hot weather would probably - bring epidemics of cholera and malaria, and these would very likely spread not only to the general population of Greece, but the Western European countries.
