On Thursday morning an attempt was made upon the life
of the King of Italy. The King and Queen were driving to the Pantheon to attend a service in memory of King Humbert's birthday when a man concealed behind the pillar of a house in the Corso Umberto fired three revolver shots at the Royal carriage. The King and Queen were fortunately unhurt, though an officer riding beside the carriage was seriously wounded. The criminal, who was almost torn to pieces by the crowd, is said to be an Anarchist named Antonio Dalba. After the attempt the King and Queen continued their drive with great coolness, and were everywhere received with the most marked enthusiasm.
