Thanks a yacht
Sir: Andrew Roberts suggests that Sir Peter de la BilRre should be bought a fine house as a reward for his outstanding success in the Gulf CA Blenheim for de la BilHere', 9 March), but this would prob- ably be an embarrassment rather than a delight. When heroes in the past were given property, they were also given in- 'The Russians are coming. The Russians are coming.' comes to match. The General is a yachts- man: a better idea would be to give him a fine yacht, together with a free berth in a marina of his choice for life. It would cost nearly as much as the house, but would probably be a more acceptable gift.
