TRAVEL TRADE TRICKS
Sm,—Congratulations to Leslie Adrian on his ex- cellent article in your issue of October 26. It is un- doubtedly true that the many reputable organisations in the field of travel suffer greatly from the fringe of dishonest 'get-rich-quick' companies. I know of one case where a blatantly rogue travel concern was reported to the local CID, whose investigating officers could find no cause to take action. Only six months later the principal was in court on fraud charges-0 not before considerable loss had been caused to the unsuspecting public, Since founded YTC eleven years ago we have encountered difficulties of a different nature: distrust Of a non-profit-making travel organisation. It is a sad comment on the climate of our times that there should exist such suspicion of a bona fide organisa- tion devoted to furthering understanding through the medium of holidays and travel.
At the same time it roust be said that over 120,000 People in many parts of the world have used our services and, apart from holidays themselves, have benefited from our language classes, lectures, film shows, house parties and social activities.
We are one of many examples of travel organisa- tions that do not belong to ABTA, and I would suggest that another suitable criterion for the travel- ling public is the age of an organisation, and the qualifications and standing of its directors and executives.
