HERBACEOUS BORDERS
The herbaceous border is one of the sad- dest sights in many gardens in autumn, and a general tidying-up often helps to prevent the border sheltering a large number of pests, lets the light and air get it the soil and counteracts sourness, although a dressing of lime is some- times necessary. Later on, when the dead herbage has been cleared, a mulching will do a lot of good.
