Mutual offices

Sir: Referring to Skinflint's comment in his City Diary of September 9 I do hope that he is successful in building up a personal holding of Scottish Widows shares in view of this interesting takeover situation. Having been employed by Scottish Widows for some twenty years I had always believed that a mutual life office had no shareholders — but then some people will believe anything.
