William Muller
Sir: I have been asked to undertake some original work on the painter William Muller, 1812-1845, with a view to a monograph and a probable exhibition.
I would be grateful for information from your readers as to the whereabouts of works by this artist in private and commerical hands, with as much information as they may be pleased to provide — works in oil, watercolour, drawings, letters and sketch-books. One might add other artists who travelled in the near and far East, such as William Hudges, Thomas and William Daniell, George Chinnery, J. F. Lewis, J. B. Pyne and Edward Lear. Apart from this, another artist I am working on is Arthur Melville, 1855-1904.
For scholarly purposes I should indeed be grateful for the courtesy of your column.
