Duck, or grouse
THE Prime Minister is away on her holi- days, leaving Lord Whitelaw in charge. He, though, will soon feel that strong gravitational pull which draws sporting noblemen northwards at this time of year, at whatever peril to their fellow sportsmen, and for a few days until Mrs Thatcher returns, the business of government will be in the hands of the Chancellor, Nigel Lawson. So much, evidently, for those (in or out of the Bank of England) who might have hoped that Mr Lawson would be a casualty of the reshuffle. His few days should enliven August. With Willie in the butts and Nigel at the helm, nervous people should keep their heads down.
