The best books have been Raoul Dufy the catalogue to the Hayward Exhibition, introduced by Bryan Robertson (Arts Council), The Bible and its Painters by Bruce Bernard (Orbis), All of Us There by Polly Devlin (Weidenfeld) and a trilogy by Philip Oakes (Volume 1/11 From Middle England, (Penguin), and Volume III The Jazz Band Ball, (Deutsch). The worst was The Life and Times of Michael K by J. M.
Coetzee (Seeker & Warburg).
