MY PLEA for a scholar who can date the oldest joke yet seen in the Financial Times diary has been splendidly answered by Mr Q. Gore. He writes: 'I believe it was King Philip of Macedonia (Bc 382-336) who preferred to have his hair cut in silence.' On its way to Mr Gore is a bottle of champagne, of more recent vintage.
