LETTERS Romanoff heir
Sir; Mr Frost of the Monarchist League in his letter (3 February) ignores two impor- tant facts.
First, unless otherwise ordered by a crowned and anointed Czar, only the children of the Czar can be Grand Dukes. The title is not hereditary and dies with the holder.
Second, Prince Vladimir's claim to be a Grand Duke rests on his father's declara- tion that he was the Emperor in Exile. It should be noted that the last Czar Nicholas II abdicated and offered his throne to his brother, the Grand Duke Michael, who refused it. The line of succession was therefore clearly broken and no unilateral declaration by either Prince Vladimir or his father can alter this.
It is true that Prince Vladimir is the senior living member of the House of Romanoff as Mr Frost suggests.
