FRENCH GOLD DEMANDS.

The outflow of gold to France has continued during the past week, and although there is much talk of schemes calcu- lated to check the constant absorption of the metal by the Bank of France, nothing very definite has yet been formulated. At the moment of writing comes the report that the Bank of France is prepared to accept gold in the standard- form at which it is always sold by the Bank of England, and while this change in policy will render it possible for France to take larger amounts on one day, it is thought that the greater ease in obtaining the metal may conceivably restrain the appetite for it. That is a point which is likely to be demonstrated one way or the other in the near future.
