Christmas quiz
Sir: May I point out two errors in your quiz (27 December)?
(I) In Section 11, 10, Macaulay's hunchback dwarf was surely not Louis xtv who was neither hunchback nor a dwarf, but the French Commander in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, who defeated William Its at Landon.
(2) In section VI, 4, there were seven Prime Ministers this century who were also Chancellors of the Exchequer; Bonar Law, Chancellor in the Lloyd George Coalition, has been overlooked. I might misquote As- quith: 'It is fitting that the Unknown Prime Minister should also be apparently the Unknown Chancellor', although he was, I believe, a very capable one.

Full marks to Mr Ryder, who is right on both counts. We apologise to all readers for two inexcusable errors—Editor, SPECTA-
