The French Atlantic Cable has been laid successfully. There are

now three of these lines in working order. By the time there are thirty, M. Reuter will probably be ready to give the public a little non-commercial news from the States, where they publish every morning whole columns of news from Europe. Our Press is rapidly becoming the least spirited in the world, and submits to anybody who offers to save it sixpence.
