Sir: With John Bull lurching blindfold into the muddy waters
of a European Common Market, one question has yet to be asked and answered. In the event of our being prodded into the Frog-pond by Messrs Pompidou, Heath and Rippon, what, it may be asked, happens to the Crown Colony of Hong Kong and its immense trade with this country?
Does Mr Heath propose to abandon this prosperous and loyal community at the behest of the other Continental Conspirators? It Would appear that Mr Heath is quite prepared to sell our national birthright for a mess of pottage Without any guarantee that the pottage will ever materialize — only the mess.
It is obvious that the Continental Conspirators are cynically determined that our country shall become an offshore province of France. Mr Heath clearly regards the strip of water that separates England from France, and• which has been our salvation on many historic occasions, as just something to sail his boat on. It will not be forgotten that the Continental Conspirators have a long and inglorious record of sell-out and scuttle. They it was who allowed Abyssinia to be overrun by the Italians in 1935. It was the same mediocre men who sold the Czechs down the river in '38. And whose feet frozen solid right in the middle of the Suez campaign, It is now proposed that Britain shall be bludgeoned into the Frogpond, to sink without trace, thus shattering the entire Empire and Commonwealth "at a stroke."
