Mexico is threatened by a ratification of the peace with

the "United States : " threatened," we say, because peace with the 'Government at Washington means, that open war shall be con- Verted into a lawless and treacherous process of private invasion. The regular army and its responsible officers will be withdrawn ; but the volunteers propose to remain, and to make the attempt at turning the Spanish into an Anglo-Saxon republic,—repeating with the metropolitan province the process that ended in the an- nexation of Texas.
